EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s soccer team is set for a rematch with the RGV FC Academy Boys team on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
UTRGV dropped its friendly against the same team 4-0 back on February 11, which also took place at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
UTRGV head coach Glad Bugariu was hoping to get a taste of some quick play and he saw that from his team the first time around.
“Our speed of play was very good,” Bugarius said. “That is one of the outcomes we had hoped to see from playing boys teams. Our speed of play increases every time. We really can’t make mistakes against teams that are athletic like that.”
Coach Bugariu is looking to see if his team can maintain the same level of quick play after two more weeks of training and that will be put to the test against the same team they played earlier in the month.
Playing the same team in back-to-back outings gives Bugariu and his staff a chance to compare and see the progress of his team. He knows that playing teams like this also puts his team in situations that they are not accustomed, which will be beneficial in the fall.
UTRGV will be back in action on March 3 when it travels to San Antonio to face Our Lady of the Lake at 2 p.m.
